Serpent & Bow Online Shop

I am very excited to announce that the online shop for my Indigo Collective, Serpent & Bow, has opened! We opened our shop at midnight, during the full moon! Images below were take by Mona Varichon of An Ocean in the City.

The serpent and the bow are both fluid symbols, used to describe our wish for the collective to bend and contort, accommodating an entity that will be forever changing with the curiosities and whims of various artistic visions as well as our collective ambitions. S&B also stands for Sister and Brother, as the collective is a vision that was hatched with my brother, Roy Blodgett. Right now, the shop features work by myself and Julian Farmar Bowers.

Indigo Hankies at Handjob Gallery Pop-Up

Indigo is a living fermentation dye method that requires daily care to maintain its delicate balance. Through daily maintenance and careful supervision, the indigo vat has come to represent my daily meditation ritual, and these handkerchiefs the fruits of my meditation. Each cloth is cut and sewn, then individually submerged into the vat, bearing the mark of my fingerprints (pinch resisting the dye). The handkerchiefs are submerged in increments of five minutes per day, multiple times, so that over a period of days or weeks, the cloths obtain a rich blue tone. Wash and wear will reveal gradual fading and variations in tone typical of indigo dyed garments. The handkerchiefs are an expression of care; a token of my thoughts and labor.

Handjob Gallery will be featuring these hankies along with amazing "functional" art by:

Batik in Many Forms

From Batik in Many Forms (Laura Adasko and Alice Huberman, 1975):

"We are Constantly creating a design for our lives as we are creating designs in batik. And the design is always changing, always growing. That is the external excitement and expansion of our lives' designs. What we do and who we do it with define the design, color it, and extend it into new patterns and undiscovered lands. That is how we continue to meet ourselves and to be continuously reborn."

This book is very dear to me. So exciting to find parallel spirits from the (not-so-distant) past!
